Job Title: Chief Mechanic

Principal/Project: Canada
Salary: Negotiable dependent upon qualification and experience

Deputy: Mechanic

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure all tools, equipment, machinery, PPE are available and in good working condition for the job to be done.
• Monitors materials and spare part consumption through MP5 in liaison with materials man.
• Implement and monitor preventive maintenance
• Liaising with the Toolpusher regarding maintenance/repairs and planning ahead so as to avoid the risk of delay through equipment breakdown.
• Stand by at critical drilling operations.
• Forklift truck/crane operator (after completion of relevant training courses, practical competence test and authorization by company).
• Compiling a concise handover book for his relief at crew change.

• Daily machine running hours
• Repairs/servicing carried out

Equipment:
• Maintain, administer and update preventive maintenance system for rig equipment, i.e. histories, records, job cards etc.
• Carry out preventive maintenance routines following discussions wit the Toolpusher.
• Maintain mechanic machinery.
• Supervise/carry out immediate repairs and scheduled overhauls.
• Inspection of forklift truck and crane.
• Inspection of fire fighting equipment (in liaison with Safety Advisor).
• Ordering materials and spare parts.
• Execution (supervision of Welder) of welding tasks as well as installation & disassembly of equipment during rig up and rig down.

HSE
• Responsible for carrying out his work in line with HSE’s policy statement.
• Act as member of Drilling Emergency Response Team.
• Attend safety drills, safety exercises, safety meetings and TBT’s as required.
• Assist in accident/incident investigation.
• Hold TBT’s.
• Evaluate all work carried out to the requirements of the Permit-to- Work system, initiate Permits to work as necessary and ensure that all safety precautions are taken and only work is carried out stated in the Permit to work.

Requirements:
• Fluent in speech and writing in the English Language
• Occupational training as mechanic and thereafter several years experience in related functions
• Minimum of two years as Motorman on rigs
• Periodical medical examination
